  AOL User's

If the reserve is not met, what happens next?

Many of the units sold through MRC have reserves that are set by the selling company. When reserves are not met, we contact the sellers and let them know the high bid. They may choose to accept, counter back to the high bidder, choose to rerun it, or pick it up to sell elsewhere. We try to contact the high bidder within 24-48 hours of the auction close to let them know. The high bidder is given the first opportunity to purchase the unit if the seller chooses to sell it after the reserve has not been met.

What is the reserve price of a unit?

We do not disclose any reserve prices. If you should win an auction and the reserve has not been met, we will call you within 24-48 hours.

How can I pay for my unit?

You can pay for your unit using cash, certified check, a money order, or wire transfer. Please let us know the specific unit # you've won and we can send you specific wire instructions. CrankyApe.com is also an Approved Auction for Automotive Finance Corporation (AFC). We will accept payments on your behalf from AFC drawn against the credit account you have established with this lender. We do not accept personal checks, business checks or credit cards as methods of payment. All payments must be sent to the Minnesota location. All other locations are pick-up locations and do not handle payments or titles.

How long do I have to pay? How soon do I have to pick up the unit?

You have three business days to pay for your unit. Each day after 3 days is subject to a 5% late fee for each outstanding unit. You have fourteen business days to pick up the unit purchased. Each day past the 14th business day is subject to a $25 per day storage fee per unit.

  Can I retract my bid?

No. All bids placed are final. Please make sure you are very serious with your bids, as any units not paid for will be subject to default fees.

What does it mean to default? What is the penalty for defaulting on a unit?

Defaulting on a unit means that you were a high bidder on a unit, the reserve was met, and you do not to pay for it. There are penalties for defaulting on a unit, including being charged for the cost of the unit, or $1,500.00, whichever is less. The defaulting party will also lose all bidding privileges with MRC. Once you have defaulted, you cannot regain those privileges.

I am Canadian, are there extra steps I need to take? Are there any extra fees involved?

As a Canadian buyer, you need to take the extra step of finding out prior to bidding if the unit you are buying will be allowed into Canada. Please contact your border crossing for details. Most borders require you to have copies of the bill of sale and title faxed to the border 72 hours before you are going to cross with the unit. You also must have the original paperwork to proceed across the border with the unit purchased.

All original paperwork is at the Minnesota location, so you must contact us if your unit is in another location so you can cross back into Canada.

You may also be subject to state sales tax, depending on the unit you are purchasing and it's location.

I am buying a unit that is not at the Minnesota location. Where is my paperwork?

All original paperwork is at MRC Headquarters in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. All United States residents will have the original paperwork mailed to them after payment is received. For all other buyers, we send a shipment every Thursday to all other MRC locations and we can include your paperwork with that shipment free of charge to location where your unit is located. The shipment arrives the following week. If you need the paperwork to be at a location before then, we request your credit card information and send it to your choice location at your expense.

  Can anyone buy from MRC?

Anyone can purchase a unit through MRC, but you must be a registered user and have filled out and mailed or faxed in the credit card form. The form can be found at the top of our home page.

Can I sell my unit through Crankyape.com?

Yes, providing you sign and agree to our terms and conditions of the sale. All consignments are subject to a 10% commission, as well as a $100 per unit detailing fee. Units must be dropped off at an MRC location, cleaned and ready for photos. All title work must be at the MN location prior to the auction close. Private party consignments will be sold with no reserves. Consignors are not allowed to bid on their own units. Please call us at 507-263-9234 to review the MRC Consignment contract.

Can I have someone else pick up my unit once it is paid for?

You may have someone else pick up your unit but the original buyer must fill out and fax a copy of the Authorization of Release form to MRC Headquarters at 507-263-9434. This form can be found as a link at the top of the FAQ’s page. Please provide any shipping companies you may use with the unit and buyer information prior to pick up!

Will MRC ship my unit to me?

MRC does not ship any units. All customers are responsible for the shipping of their purchased units, paperwork, and accessories (if applicable). We do provide a list of shipping companies other customers have used on our homepage on the left, under Shipping.

Can I purchase a unit directly without bidding from MRC?

All items must go through the online auction process. There are no “Buy it Now” prices.

I have a dealer’s license and want to buy units in my dealership’s name. What do you need from me?

Please supply us with a copy of your dealer’s license. When you register, please enter your dealership name in the area provided on the registration page, along with your first and last name. We use the name you register with to generate the Bill of Sale, and on the title.

Are there any additional fees when buying through Crankyape.com? Which items have sales tax?

All items will be charged the high bid + the transaction fee.

ALL units located in the state of Indiana will be subject to 7% sales tax. A ST-108 form can be obtained as proof of sales tax paid.

In all other states, units that are titled through the DMV will NOT be charged sales tax for out of state residents or foreign residents. (Please note: out of state residents are those not currently residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Georgia.) This includes RV’s, cars, trucks, and motorcycles.

State Sales tax in other states WILL apply on items that do not have titles, based on the state the item is located at. This includes ATVs and snowmobiles (which have registration cards) and any miscellaneous items that do not have titles.

Those items are taxable based on the rate of the state they are located at with the following exceptions:
1. Licensed Dealers purchasing items for the purpose of resale will not be charged sales tax. MRC must be provided with a copy of your Dealer License to exempt you from sales tax.
2. Customers providing MRC with a valid tax exemption form for the item being purchased will not be charged sales tax.

Minnesota residents will be charged sales tax and transfer fees to process title work through the State of Minnesota. Wisconsin residents will only be charged sales tax and transfer fees if the unit is located at our Wisconsin warehouse.

For specific questions, please contact the Minnesota State Tax Office at 651-296-6181.

I forgot my password and/or my screen name. How do I get this?

At the top of our home page, click on the "Password Request" button and the system will email your password to the email address you registered with. If you do not remember your screen name, please call or email us with your First and Last name and we can look it up for you.

Can I look at the unit before I bid?

Absolutely! Our Minnesota location holds regular business hours, and all other locations are by appointment only. We encourage all buyers to view units before bidding, as all units are sold AS IS!

What if the item is not what I expected?

All items are sold AS IS with no warranties expressed or implied.

We make a good faith effort to describe items as accurately as possible, however, MRC is not responsible for information provided in error. You agree to this policy when you place your bids on Crankyape.com. We encourage all buyers to view units prior to bidding, as well as run a Carfax report on the Vin # provided PRIOR to bidding. Please be sure to read the description of each unit thoroughly, as well as view ALL of the photos prior to bidding!

When submitting each bid, you must agree to the following: We describe all units based on a visual inspection only. We make a good faith effort to accurately describe each item, however there may be hidden damage, or we may unintentionally miss damage that may appear obvious to the buyer. If you agree to our terms and conditions and are aware that ALL ITEMS ARE SOLD AS IS despite what is written or not written in the description.

What if I don’t have time to sit at my computer when an auction closes?

You can place an absent bid. To do this you must place one manual bid on the unit so the system recognizes you as a bidder on this unit. Then check the absent bidding box and enter the maximum amount that you are willing to pay for this unit.

This is not your bid price. Simply the maximum amount you are willing to pay for this unit. This will automatically increase your bid by the minimum bid increment anytime anyone outbids you, until either the auction closes or your ceiling has been hit. If the unit closes with a price of less than your maximum, that amount is all that you would pay.

The presence of and the amount of absent bids are kept strictly confidential.

Example: If you were the high bidder at $2150.00 with a $2202.00 absent bid and the minimum bid increment is $50.00, the next bidder will outbid you at $2200.00 and you will lose out. Your absent bid of $2202.00 did not meet the minimum required bid increment of $50.00. THIS IS NOT OPEN FOR DEBATE!

If a manual bid is placed that is the exact same amount as the highest absent bid placed, the manual bid will win the unit.
For example: An absent bid is placed at $30,000 for a unit. On that same unit, a manual bid is placed at $30,000. The manual bid will win the unit. Why? Because the system will look for any other bids above $30,000 that meets the bid increment, and it will not see any.

Why do some auctions stay open past the scheduled close time?

All of our auctions close as soon after noon as the bid system has been idle for 10 minutes. Every time a bid is placed, that 10 minute time clock starts again. This is to prevent someone from placing a bid at 11:59am so that no one else has the opportunity to outbid them. If you are interested in a particular unit, we want to give you the opportunity to keep bidding on it!

For example: If no one has bid on a particular unit since 11:45am, this unit will close promptly at noon. If someone places a bid at 11:55am, this bid will close at 12:05pm. If someone then places another bid at 12:02, that bid will not close until 12:12pm and so on, until all bidding has stopped for 10 minutes (and it is after 12:00pm).

What does it mean when an auction is extended due to bankruptcy?

Occasionally the previous owner of a repossessed unit will file bankruptcy. If this falls during a period when the unit is already on auction through MRC, we will extend and eventually remove the unit from auction. The unit will be rerun at a later date when MRC is legally able to. No high bidders will be held to their bids when a unit is put on hold.

Why could the year on my title be different than the year established by the RV manufacturer?

This is a very common question within the RV industry and not just specific to a particular manufacturer. The chassis of a motorized product is purchased from a chassis manufacturer (Ford, Chevy, Workhorse, Freightliner, Spartan, etc.) as an "Incomplete Vehicle" (with an established chassis serial number). When a manufacturer completes the vehicle, a model year is assigned, along with the manufacturer’s serial number to the coach portion. The RV industry and chassis manufacturer model years change at different times. For example, an RV manufacturer may introduce the 2007 model year unit in June of 2006, but the chassis manufacturer doesn't introduce the 2007 chassis until September of 2006.

Because the manufacturer "Completes the Vehicle" and assigns the model year, the value of any unit is determined by the model year of the coach, not necessarily the chassis, even if the chassis is listed on the title. It is a very common practice in the RV industry for units to be titled by the chassis. The chassis may also be 1-2 years older than the actual coach.

If there is a warranty on the vehicle, will it transfer to me if I win the bid?

Occasionally a warranty will have been purchased by the previous owner of a vehicle. In the event that this unit would be repossessed, the warranty will often times be cancelled and be paid back to the lender in an effort to repay the amount owed on a unit. If further research is conducted by the CrankyApe bidder to discover there is a warranty, please be advised that this may be cancelled by the lender at a later time.

Other manufacturer warranties that may be applicable will need to be researched by the bidder to determine whether it would still be in effect when purchasing units through CrankyApe.com. All units are sold As Is with no warranties expressed or implied.

  Why are auction times staggered?

In order to improve web page performance, auction close times are now staggered. Auctions now close sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (CST). Please take note of the close time of the unit(s) you are bidding on, as it may no longer be 12:00 p.m.!

I am a MN or WI resident. How long before I get my title?

MRC will process the title work for MN residents. WI residents title work will only be processed by MRC if the unit is located at our Wisconsin warehouse. You should receive an in-transit permit that will serve as a license plate while bringing your unit home.

License plates for your unit should be received within 2 weeks (or prior to your in-transit permit expiring) of the purchase. Any registration cards for applicable units should also come within 2 weeks.

For units purchased that are titled through the DMV, the titles will come directly to the purchaser within 4-6 weeks of the purchase.

To check the status of your title, please contact your local DMV or Deputy Registrar’s office with the VIN number of your unit.

Does an impound unit sold on a Bill of Sale come with a title?

No. No title is available with this unit, however it will be issued with an official Bill of Sale. In order to obtain a title, the unit must be inspected to be deemed "roadworthy" at an official inspection site in Minnesota. The paperwork from this inspection should be turned in to a Minnesota DMV, which will then require a Minnesota address to register the unit, including fees and sales tax. A title will be received for the unit within 6-8 weeks of that submission.

  What is a title brand?

A title "brand" provides important information about the condition of a vehicle. It is a permanent record that prints on a title issued for a vehicle sold in Wisconsin. The estimate of repairs is determined by the insurance company selling the unit. Please check your state and/or country's registration regulations regarding these title brands prior to bidding on a unit.

No Title Brand = Estimate of repairs are between 0% and 30%.

Insurance Claim Paid Brand = Estimate of repairs are between 30% and 70%.

Salvage Brand = Estimate of repairs are between 70% and 100%.

Junk Brand = Estimate of repairs are over 100%. No title can be issued and the unit will be sold on a bill of sale.

  INDIANA SALES TAX REQUIREMENT

We are required by Indiana State Law to collect 7% sales tax on any vehicle picked up within Indiana. You will receive a form showing what sales tax you have paid on your vehicle and you will present this form to your home state when registering your vehicle. Indiana will then transfer that sales tax to your state. The only exceptions to this rule are the states of Arkansas and Alabama. These two states do not have a reciprocal sales tax agreement with Indiana. There may be other states that do not have reciprocal agreements so please research with your state BEFORE bidding. On vehicle sales where shipping is arranged by the buyer Indiana sales Tax is still required. Also, sales tax is not collected on vehicles sold to another dealer if the dealer can provide a copy of a valid resale certificate for their home state.

Does MRC Winterize RV’s and Boats?

MRC will “Freeze Protect” the units located at the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana locations. What does this mean?

Watercraft:
Inboard boat motors have the block drained, and has anti-freeze cycled through it. The lower unit drain plug is also cracked open.
Outboard motors have the motor tilted down to allow the unit to drain properly. The lower unit drain plug is also pulled and checked for water.
For jet boats and PWC that have a closed system, the block is drained and has anti-freeze cycled through it. For jet boats and PWC that have an open system, the unit is tipped to drain excess water and ran to exhaust any remaining water.

RV’s:
There is anti-freeze flushed through all water lines, water fixtures, and drains. If equipped, the black, gray, and fresh water tanks, and water heater have all been drained and all outside drains are cracked open with the covers/plugs removed.

Units are not fully winterized per manufacturer specifications. Please inspect your unit before storing it for the remainder of the winter months. CrankyApe.com does not take responsibility for any damage caused to this unit once it leaves our facility. CrankyApe.com also cannot guarantee the condition of the unit prior to the arrival at our location. We suggest this unit be winterized by a licensed professional.
