 Reserve information
|
Many of the units sold through MRC have reserves that are set by the selling company. We do not disclose any reserve prices. When a reserve is not met, an automatic email will be sent around 4:00pm CST to the high bidder giving them the opportunity to purchase the unit for the set reserve amount. The high bidder is given the first opportunity to purchase the unit if the seller chooses to sell it after the reserve has not been met.
If no agreement is reached with the high bidder, we will contact the top three bidders via email. Within this email, there will be an option to place another bid. The top bid will be presented to the seller and the seller has the option accept that bid. The seller retains the right to cancel the sale if no agreement is made in the event a unit does not meet the reserve.
|
 Payments
|
You have three business days to pay for your unit. Each day after 3 days is subject to a 5% per day late fee for each outstanding unit.
You can pay for your unit using cash (only for units at the Minnesota location) or wire transfer. Wire instructions are available through a link on your confirmation email, or on the FAQ page (see the FAQ titled: How do I wire money to pay for the unit I just purchased). Simply print out those instructions to take into your bank, tell them the amount to wire and you're done! Wires typically take 24 to 48 hours to process from one account to the other. They are not instantaneous transactions.
All payments must be made to the Minnesota location.
We do not accept personal checks or business checks as methods of payment. All payments must be sent to the Minnesota location. All other locations are pick-up locations and do not handle payments or titles.

 Placing bids on Crankyape.com
|
All bids placed are final. Please make sure you are very serious with your bids, as any units not paid for will be subject to default fees.
All items must go through the online auction process. There are no “Buy it Now” prices.
All items are sold AS IS with no warranties expressed or implied.
Once you find an item you are interested in, it is easy to place a bid:
1. Register to be a Crankyape.com member. Please see the FAQ titled Registering to Bid on CrankyApe.com for questions. Please make sure all contact information entered is accurate so we are able to contact you regarding payment and title work!
2. Read the terms and conditions and frequently asked questions on our site.
3. Carefully look over the item listing. Read the description of each item thoroughly, and view all of the photos. We encourage all of our buyers to view units in person prior to bidding. Please research your state and country regulations, titling laws, and vehicle history reports regarding each unit prior to bidding.
4. Enter your Screen Name and Password in the space provided. The amount to outbid the current bidder will be already entered in the bid amount. This is a manual bid that will be submitted.
5. Initial that you have read and agree to all of the terms and conditions.
6. If you’d like to place an absent bid at the same time so the system will bid up to your maximum amount, check the indicated box and enter your maximum bid in the box on the page. See the FAQ titled Absent Bidding for further details on this process.
7. Click the Submit Bid button. Remember, each bid you place enters you into a binding contract. All bids are active until the auction ends. If you win a listing, you are obligated to complete the transaction if the reserve is met.
8. When submitting each bid, you must agree to the following: We describe all units based on a visual inspection only. We make a good faith effort to accurately describe each item, however there may be hidden damage, or we may unintentionally miss damage that may appear obvious to the buyer. If you agree to our terms and conditions and are aware that ALL ITEMS ARE SOLD AS IS despite what is written or not written in the description. If you click Cancel, the bid will not be submitted.
9. A new page will now display and will notify you if your bid was accepted, outbid, or if there was a problem with your registration. If the bid was accepted then press the Return to Item button. This will bring you back to the original bid page.
10. If you are the high bidder at the end of the auction, you'll receive an email indicating the next steps that you need to take, depending on if the reserve was met or not.
|
 Defaulting penalties
|
Defaulting on a unit means that you were a high bidder on a unit, the reserve was met, and you do not to pay for it. There are penalties for defaulting on a unit, including being charged for the cost of the unit, or $1,500.00, whichever is less. This charge is a penalty, and is NOT considered payment for the unit.
The defaulting party will also lose all bidding privileges with MRC. Once you have defaulted, you cannot regain those privileges.
|
 International Buyers
|
As an international buyer, you need to take the extra step of finding out prior to bidding if the unit you are buying is admissible into your country. Please research this online or contact your border crossing for details.
Canadian residents may try the Registrar of Imported Vehicles at 1-888-848-8240 or www.riv.ca/ImportingAVehicle.aspx for more information.
Canadians can also access the road safety recall database at wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/saf-sec-sur/7/vrdb-bdrv/search/Search.aspx?lang=eng
For U.S. Customs and Border Protection Contacts: www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/toolbox/contacts/
Most borders require you to have copies of the bill of sale and title faxed to the border 72 hours before you are going to cross with the unit. You also must have the original paperwork to proceed across the border with the unit purchased.
All original paperwork is at the Minnesota location, so you must contact us if your unit is in a different location so you can cross back into your country.
You may also be subject to state sales tax, depending on the unit you are purchasing and its location. Sales tax WILL be applied to specific units, depending on the laws of the state the unit is located at. Please do not assume that all items to be exported will be exempt from state sales tax!
|
 Original paperwork
|
All original paperwork is at MRC Headquarters in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. All United States residents will have the original paperwork mailed to them after payment is received. For all other buyers, we send a shipment every Thursday to all other MRC locations and we can include your paperwork with that shipment free of charge to location where your unit is located. The shipment arrives the following week. Any expedited shipping is at the cost of the buyer.

 Totals and applicable sales tax
|
All items will be charged the high bid + the transaction fee.
International buyers: Sales tax WILL be applied to specific units, depending on the laws of the state the unit is located at. Please do not assume that all items to be exported will be exempt from state sales tax!
ALL units located in the state of Indiana will be subject to 7% sales tax, including units to be internationally exported. A ST-108 form can be obtained as proof of sales tax paid.
ALL units located in the state of California will be subject to 8.75% sales tax, including units to be internationally exported.
In all other states, units that are titled through the DMV will NOT be charged sales tax for out of state residents or foreign residents. (Please note: out of state residents are those not currently residing in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, Texas, Arizona or California.) This includes RV’s, cars, trucks, and motorcycles.
State Sales tax in other states WILL apply on items that do not have titles, based on the state the item is located at. This includes ATVs and snowmobiles (which have registration cards) and any miscellaneous items that do not have titles.
Those items are taxable based on the rate of the state they are located at with the following exceptions:
1. Licensed Dealers purchasing items for the purpose of resale will not be charged sales tax. MRC must be provided with a copy of your Dealer License to exempt you from sales tax.
2. Customers providing MRC with a valid tax exemption form for the item being purchased will not be charged sales tax.

 Previewing units prior to bidding
|
We encourage all buyers to view units before bidding, as all units are sold AS IS! Our locations hold regular business hours. Please see our "Locations" page on the left for more details.
|
All units are sold AS IS
|
All items are sold AS IS with no warranties expressed or implied.
We make a good faith effort to describe items as accurately as possible; however, MRC is not responsible for information provided in error. You agree to this policy when you place your bids on Crankyape.com. We encourage all buyers to view units prior to bidding, as well as run a Carfax report on the VIN # provided PRIOR to bidding. Please be sure to read the description of each unit thoroughly, as well as view ALL of the photos prior to bidding!

 Absent Bidding
|
To place an absent bid you must place one manual bid on the unit so the system recognizes you as a bidder on this unit. At the same time the manual bid is placed (which should be pre-filled in with the amount necessary to outbid the current bidder), check the absent bidding box and enter the maximum amount that you are willing to pay for this unit.
This is not your bid price. Simply the maximum amount you are willing to pay for this unit. This will automatically increase your bid by the minimum bid increment anytime anyone outbids you, until either the auction closes or your ceiling has been hit.
The presence of and the amount of absent bids are kept strictly confidential.
Example: If you were the high bidder at $2150.00 with a $2202.00 absent bid and the minimum bid increment is $50.00, the next bidder will outbid you at $2200.00 and you will lose out. Your absent bid of $2202.00 did not meet the minimum required bid increment of $50.00. THIS IS NOT OPEN FOR DEBATE!
If an absent bid is placed for an amount that is above a unit’s reserve price, the absent bid will jump up to fulfill that unit’s reserve. It will not go up again until it is needed to outbid someone else.
If a manual bid is placed that is the exact same amount as the highest absent bid placed, the manual bid will win the unit. For example: An absent bid is placed at $30,000 for a unit. On that same unit, a manual bid is placed at $30,000. The manual bid will win the unit. Why? Because the system will look for any other bids above $30,000 that meets the bid increment and it will not see any.
|
 Auction close times
|
All of our auctions close between 11:00am CST and 3:00pm CST. The specific close time of each unit will be listed in each unit's bid information. The unit's auction will close as soon after the specified end time as the bid system has been idle for 10 minutes. Every time a bid is placed, that 10 minute time clock starts again. This is to prevent someone from placing a bid at 11:59am so that no one else has the opportunity to outbid them. If you are interested in a particular unit, we want to give you the opportunity to keep bidding on it!
For example: If no one has bid on a particular unit since 11:45am, this unit will close promptly at noon. If someone places a bid at 11:55am, this bid will close at 12:05pm. If someone then places another bid at 12:02, that bid will not close until 12:12pm and so on, until all bidding has stopped for 10 minutes (and it is after 12:00pm).
In order to improve web page performance, auction close times are now staggered. Auctions now close sometime between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (CST). Please take note of the close time of the unit(s) you are bidding on, as it may no longer be 12:00 p.m.!

 Auctions extended due to bankruptcy
|
Occasionally the previous owner of a repossessed unit will file bankruptcy. If this falls during a period when the unit is already on auction through MRC, we will extend and eventually remove the unit from auction. The unit will be rerun at a later date when MRC is legally able to. No high bidders will be held to their bids when a unit is put on hold.
|
Title year vs. year established by the RV manufacturer
|
Occasionally the year on the title will be different from the year established by the RV manufacturer. Why?
This is a very common question within the RV industry and not just specific to a particular manufacturer. The chassis of a motorized product is purchased from a chassis manufacturer (Ford, Chevy, Workhorse, Freightliner, Spartan, etc.) as an "Incomplete Vehicle" (with an established chassis serial number). When a manufacturer completes the vehicle, a model year is assigned, along with the manufacturer’s serial number to the coach portion. The RV industry and chassis manufacturer model years change at different times. For example, an RV manufacturer may introduce the 2007 model year unit in June of 2006, but the chassis manufacturer does not introduce the 2007 chassis until September of 2006.
Because the manufacturer "Completes the Vehicle" and assigns the model year, the value of any unit is determined by the model year of the coach, not necessarily the chassis, even if the chassis is listed on the title. It is a very common practice in the RV industry for units to be titled by the chassis. The chassis may also be 1-2 years older than the actual coach.
|
 Unit warranties
|
All units are sold As Is with no warranties expressed or implied.
Occasionally the previous owner of a vehicle will have purchased a warranty. In the event that this unit would be repossessed, the warranty will often times be cancelled and be paid back to the lender in an effort to repay the amount owed on a unit. If further research is conducted by the CrankyApe bidder to discover there is a warranty, please be advised that this may be cancelled by the lender at a later time.
Other manufacturer warranties that may be applicable will need to be researched by the bidder to determine whether it would still be in effect when purchasing units through CrankyApe.com.

Texas residents: Title work will only be processed by MRC for marine units if the unit is located at our Texas warehouse. In-transit permits that will serve as a license plate while bringing your unit home are available at each location. Fees for these permits may vary based on the state the unit is located at.
License plates for your unit should be received within 2 weeks of MRC receiving the completed documents from the buyer. Any registration cards for applicable units should also come within that time frame.
For units purchased that are titled through the DMV, the titles will come directly to the purchaser within 4-6 weeks of the purchase.
To check the status of your title, please contact your local DMV or Deputy Registrar’s office with the VIN number of your unit.
|
Impound units sold on a bill of sale vs. a title
|
Impound units that are described as being sold on an official bill of sale do not have titles available. In order to obtain a title, the unit must be inspected to be deemed "roadworthy" at an official inspection site in Minnesota. The paperwork from this inspection should be turned in to a Minnesota DMV, which will then require a Minnesota address to register the unit, including fees and sales tax. A title will be received for the unit within 6-8 weeks of that submission.
|
 Title Brands
|
A title "brand" provides important information about the condition of a vehicle. It is a permanent record that prints on a title issued for a vehicle sold in Wisconsin. The insurance company selling the unit determines the estimate of repairs. Please check your state and/or country's registration regulations regarding these title brands prior to bidding on a unit.
No Title Brand = Estimate of repairs are between 0% and 30%.
Insurance Claim Paid Brand = Estimate of repairs are between 30% and 70%.
Salvage Brand = Estimate of repairs are between 70% and 100%.
Junk Brand = Estimate of repairs are over 100%. No title can be issued and the unit will be sold on a bill of sale.
|
 INDIANA SALES TAX REQUIREMENT
|
We are required by Indiana State Law to collect 7% sales tax on any vehicle picked up within Indiana. You will receive a form showing what sales tax you have paid on your vehicle and you will present this form to your home state when registering your vehicle. Indiana will then transfer that sales tax to your state. The only exceptions to this rule are the states of Arkansas and Alabama. These two states do not have a reciprocal sales tax agreement with Indiana. There may be other states that do not have reciprocal agreements so please research with your state BEFORE bidding.
On vehicle sales where shipping is arranged by the buyer Indiana sales Tax is still required. Also, sales tax is not collected on vehicles sold to another dealer if the dealer can provide a copy of a valid resale certificate for their home state.
|
 Winterization of RV’s and Boats
|
MRC will “Freeze Protect” the units located at the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana locations. What does this mean?
Watercraft:
Inboard boat motors have the block drained, and has anti-freeze cycled through it. The lower unit drain plug is also cracked open.
Outboard motors have the motor tilted down to allow the unit to drain properly. The lower unit drain plug is also pulled and checked for water.
For jet boats and PWC that have a closed system, the block is drained and has anti-freeze cycled through it. For jet boats and PWC that have an open system, the unit is tipped to drain excess water and ran to exhaust any remaining water.
RV’s:
There is anti-freeze flushed through all water lines, water fixtures, and drains. If equipped, the black, gray, and fresh water tanks, and water heater have all been drained and all outside drains are cracked open with the covers/plugs removed.
Units are not fully winterized per manufacturer specifications. Please inspect your unit before storing it for the remainder of the winter months. CrankyApe.com does not take responsibility for any damage caused to this unit once it leaves our facility. CrankyApe.com also cannot guarantee the condition of the unit prior to the arrival at our location. We suggest a licensed professional winterize this unit.
|
 CALIFORNIA SALES TAX REQUIREMENT
|
We are required by California State Law to collect 8.75% sales tax on any vehicle picked up within California. Please research if your state has a reciprocal agreement with the state of California BEFORE bidding. On vehicle sales where shipping is arranged by the buyer California sales Tax is still required. Also, sales tax is not collected on vehicles sold to another dealer if the dealer can provide a copy of a valid resale certificate for their home state.
|

We expect that all customers and transporters come prepared to load their units with limited assistance from MRC. We do not provide tie down straps for any units.
Unless otherwise stated in a unit's specific listing, MRC is not able to crate units for shipping. MRC does not drain fluids such as oil and gas for shipping purposes.

 Items NOT tested on units
|
Items that may be listed in a description, but not tested for functionality include: appliances (inside and outside), accessories, awnings, furnaces, air conditioning, leveling jacks (manual), plumbing, power windows, radios, navigation systems, back up cameras, slide outs. Depending on the vehicle, some lights and gears, including four wheel drive may also not be tested. We do not test the sea worthiness of boats and or drivability of units. We do not test the fuel.
Odor in a unit is a relative factor and may vary from person to person, and any notes on odor are done in “good faith”. If you are sensitive to odors we suggest you inspect the unit in person.
